Electrical Pumps

Electrical Pumps Power Industry

A pump is generally described as any device employed for moving liquids or gasses or for compressing the same. Thus, electrical pumps perform one or more of these functions when driven by means of of an AC or DC electric motor.  While the earliest pumps were hand operated or powered by farm animals such as horses or oxen, the heightened demands of most modern pumping operations, particularly in the industrial arena, call for much greater flow rates and pressures that can only be attained by the use of electrical pumps.

Electrical pumps are to be found in many situations outside of industry and their roles may sometimes be equally critical. While the modest pump that circulates the water in your swimming pool or ornamental water feature or the tiny one used to aerate your home aquarium may not be mission-critical, except from the fish’s perspective, the electrical pumps employed to supply fuel to the carburettors of a motor vehicle or the piston-engine of a light aircraft may certainly be so.

On the industrial front, electrical pumps may need to operate efficiently in some highly inhospitable environments. Often, subjected to very high temperatures, submerged in mud or other viscous fluids and used to pump highly corrosive substances, only their special construction and the high torque provided by the motors used in electrical pumps enable them to keep up this kind of demanding performance under such adverse operating conditions.

Of the various electrical pumps available, centrifugal pumps have proved themselves to be the real workhorses and are widely employed in many different industries. They are particularly suitable for moving exceptionally viscous materials and will frequently be found immersed in mud such as is encountered in oil drilling operations. These electrical pumps employ impellers with curved vanes to create the flow of volute. Multistage pumps employ additional impellers in series or parallel to increase pressure or flow rates respectively.

Electrical pumps should be of the highest quality and require careful installation and maintenance. contact us for all of your pump-related needs including pump hire and repairs.
