Using Borehole Pumps Effectively

When it comes to pumps and accessories, there truly is a wide variety of products available for you to choose form. Depending on your requirements, you will be able to find the exact product for your unique application. From flameproof to borehole – there is a unit for your every need.

One of the most common types of pumps that you might come across is the borehole variety. There are different types of borehole pumps available and you might be familiar with the submersible types, as they are commonly used in Southern Africa. These units extract water from a borehole. A borehole is a narrow shaft that is drilled vertically into the ground using a drilling rig. There are however, certain features that have had to be present in all borehole pumps because of the specific function that they perform.

These units come into direct contact with various minerals that can be found in the soil, which is why they are typically made from corrosion resistant materials. There are two main components in borehole pumps and this includes the food part, where the pumping mechanism is housed, and the head, which serves as an outlet for the water. These units are typically used in fields such as irrigation and mining.

Boreholes can be used in commercial applications, as well as in residential areas, where many home owners often have a borehole on the premises to use as a water resource. With so many different types of pumps available, you can find the perfect one for your unique needs, along with any parts and accessories you need to service it when you need to. It is often difficult to service or repair a pump, which is why this is best left to the experts to handle.

Drilling a Borehole

A borehole is usually drilled to a specific diameter, to be able to accommodate the size of the pump. Drilling is done to a specific length according to the water levels, in order to achieve the perfect depth to access the water beneath. Depending on where you are drilling, you might need to install a temporary steel casing to prevent any collapses while you are drilling. Once the borehole has been completed, the tools are then removed from the hole and you can add your pump. Once the borehole is drilled, there is little evidence of there ever having been one there. The hole is sealed, usually with a steel manhole cover, to allow for normal traffic to pass over the borehole, once it has been completed.

Borehole pumps are used in deep wells that can go as far as 200 metres down, however for these to be effective, you might need to install a multistage pump. These units have a series of impellers that provide similar functionality to multiple pumps in the pipeline. This is why it is important to choose the best possible quality units made from durable materials, in order to ensure that they will get the job done correctly.

Stainless steel borehole units are quite common and also popular, due to the many benefits that they provide. Stainless steel is rust resistant and this means that it is the ideal material to be used underground. This will also prolong the lifetime of the pump itself, as it is a durable material, as well as one that is affordable. Stainless steel pumps have an extremely durable outer casing, in order to protect its interior.
